Diomedea epomophora. Vide magnum rostrum hamatum et tubos nasales.


Diomedeidae sunt familia avium marinarum ordinis Procellariiformium, Procellariidis, Hydrobatidis, Pelecanoididisque propinquarum. Late per oceanum Australem et Pacificum borealem vagantur; ab Atlantico boreali absunt, quamquam reliquiae fossiles demonstrant eas olim hic habitavisse; interdum errones reperiuntur. Diomedeidae sunt inter maximas aves volantes; genus Diomedea habet maximam alarum latitudinem omnium avium quae exstant, usque ad 3.7 metra. Diomedeidae divisae sunt in quattuor genera; specierum autem numerus hodie disputatur. Familia ex Diomede, heroe Graeco, appellatur.

Diomedeidae in quattuor genera nunc digeruntur, sed eruditi de numero specierum disputant. IUCN et BirdLife International viginti duas species exstantes agnoscunt (infra perscriptas),[2] ITIS viginti unam adnoscit (viginiti duas infra minus T. steadi),[3] et quidam commentarius recens tredecim proposuit (in parenthesibus infra).
