The second sentence is ungrammatical. The first one makes sense, although it's unusual, but only if you put emphasis on did. And without knowing what the direct speech was, it's impossible to say if any particular rephrasing to indirect speech is an accurate translation.

The second sentence is completely wrong. The first one is almost correct, though I would use had instead of did (for influence), along with a couple other additions.
The researchers wanted to know if the dreams had any influence our behavior.
