Samaria eller Shomron (hebraisk שומרון‎, Šoməron; gresk Σαμάρεια; arabisk سامريّون‎, Sāmariyyūn eller السامرة, as-Samarah – òg kalla جبال نابلس, Jibal Nablus) er namnet på eit fjellområde i det gamle Palestina,[1] baser tpå grensene til det bibelske Det nordlege kongedømet Israel. Namnet «Samaria» kjem frå den antikke byen Samaria, hovudstaden i kongedømet Israel.[2][3][4] I moderne tid vert området generelt og nesten universelt rekna som ein del av Vestbreidda.[5]


Jordan avstod kravet sitt på området til den Palestinsk frigjeringsorganisasjon (PLO) i november 1988. I 1994, kontroll over områda 'A' (full sivil og tryggleikskontroll av Dei palestinske sjøvstyresmaktene) og 'B' (palestinsk sivilkontroll og felles israelske-palestinsk tryggleikskontroll) vart overført av Israel til Dei palestinske sjøvstyresmaktene. Dei palestinske sjølvstyresmaktene anerkjende ikkje omgrepet Samaria som ein del av området sitt.



Geografi |


I nord grensar Samaria til Jezreeldalen, i aust til Jordandalen, i vest til Karemelryggen (i nord) og Sharonsletta (i vest) og i sør av Jerusalemfjella. I bibelsk tid strekte Samaria seg frå Middelhavet til Jordandalen[6] inkludert Karmelberget og Sharonsletta.
