«Sofa» er ein song av den amerikanske musikaren Frank Zappa. I 1993, året då Zappa døydde, spelte Steve Vai «Sofa» på hyllestalbumet Zappa's Universe. Denne versjonen vann Grammy-prisen for beste rockeinstrumental i 1994. Dette var den første av Vai sine tre Grammy-prisar. [1]

Opphavleg vart «Sofa» berre spelt på konsertar og var lenge ein lengre komposisjon i tida då Flo and Eddie song med Zappa og der Mark Volman lata som om han var ein sofa. I 1975 kom «Sofa» ut på albumet One Size Fits All som ein instrumentalversjon og ein vokal versjon (Sofa No.1 og Sofa No.2.) Det er ein stor sofa midt på plateomslaget til One Size Fits All og initialane til albumtittelen, «OSFA» kan omarrangerast og stave «SOFA». Same året vart «Sofa No.2» gjeve ut som singel og då kalla «Du Bist Mein Sofa». Den same songen som vart kalla «Sofa No. 1» vart kalla «Sofa» og gjeven ut på konsertalbumet Zappa in New York i 1976. På albumet You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 1, inneheld «Sofa #1» vokal og «Sofa #2» er instrumentalversjonen. På både «One Size Fits All» og «You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore, Vol. 1» er «Sofa No./#1» spor nummer 3, medan «Sofa No./#2» endar albumet. Han vart kalla «Divan» på albumet Playground Psychotics. «Sofa» er ein songane Zappa har referert mest til i diskografien sin.[2][3][4]
Tekst og tyding |
Den vokale versjonen av «Sofa» inneheld tekst på både tysk og engelsk. I følgje kritikarar var det fordi han inneheld tysk at han skilde seg mest ut på plata.[5] Den engelske teksten handlar om forskjellige delar av naturen (himmelen, vatnet og skyene), medan teksten på tysk forklarar korls dei er «spisekroken til sofane i krom» og «alle dagar og alle netter».[2] Alt i alt kom «Sofa» til som følgje av Zappa sin fascinasjon for tyskarar då han turnerte i Europa.[6][3]
Ya Hozna |
«Ya Hozna» frå albumet Them Or Us frå 1984, er hovudsakleg «Sofa No.2» spelt baklengd. Han inneheld òg delar av «Lonely Little Girl» frå We're Only In It For The Money og «Valley Girl» frå Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch spelt baklengs.[7]
